Srinagar, June 30: In
a major crackdown on the menace of the substance abuse by Udhampur Police, the
authorities have been able to arrest 87 drug peddlers during the last six moth
of this year.
Besides making arrests, as
many as 28 people have been convicted while narcotics worth Rs 2.42 Crore has
been seized ad drug assets worth Rs 4.69 crores have been attached by Udhampur
Police.
Also, around 43 Bank accounts
of drug peddlers have been frozen as well as the war against drugs has been intensified
by Udhampur Police.
During the last six months,
61 cases under the NDPS Act have been registered and of 87 accused have been
arrested as well.
The arrested include 80
under NDPS and seven under PIT NDPS/PSA provisions.
As per the details, 22
vehicles used for narcotics transportation have been seized while six pharmacy
shops were closed for violating norms related to H1 drugs.
As part of financial
disruption, 43 bank accounts linked to drug peddlers were frozen, involving an
amount of Rs 16,72,948.
"Seized contraband
during this period was valued at Rs 2.42 crore on the black market, including
Heroin, Charas, Poppy Straw, and Ganja," the official figures reveal.
Udhampur Police has tightened
its noose against the drug network by attaching properties worth Rs 4.69 crore,
including multiple vehicles, residential houses, and commercial assets related
to both NDPS and bovine smuggling cases.
"Udhampur Police have also
secured convictions against 28 drug Peddlers in 21 cases from courts, which
marks the professional approach towards case investigation and
prosecution," it reads.
