Bandipora, July 23: Government Girls Higher Secondary School Bandipora on Tuesday hosts a mega awareness-cum-workshop on mental health aimed at promoting mental wellness among adolescent girls.
An official spokesperson of the institute said the event was jointly conducted by SANKALP-HEW (Hub for Empowerment of women) under the Department of Social Welfare's Mission Shakti programme, in collaboration with the NGO Stand for Kashmiri Youth (SKY) under the guidance of Principal of the institution Jawaid Ahmad Magrey.
During the workshop, interactive sessions led by mental health experts from SKY Trust Kashmir were held that focused on emotional well-being, stress management, and adolescent mental health issues increasingly affecting young students.
Tahira Tabasum (DMC) from the Department of Social Welfare, Bandipora, briefed the participants about various government schemes and services available under Mission Shakti, aimed at empowering women and improving access to health and welfare support.
As part of the event, awareness pamphlets were distributed among students, sports kits were handed over to promote physical wellness, and a sanitary napkin vending machine was installed by SANKALP-HEW to support menstrual hygiene in the school.
Girls actively participated in the discussions and expressed appreciation for the safe and open environment created during the sessions.
The initiative was also marked by gratitude towards the school administration, with organisers especially thanking Principal Sir and staff members for their coordination and support.
"This is a crucial step in normalising conversations around mental health and creating safe, supportive spaces for our girls,” said a representative from SANKALP-HEW.
Officials said the programme is part of a broader campaign to integrate mental health education into schools and strengthen adolescent wellness in the region.
