Srinagar, Jul 31: A
comprehensive awareness programme on drug de-addiction and substance abuse was
organised by the Information and Public Relations (DIPR), Jammu and Kashmir, at
the Government Girls Higher Secondary School Zadibal on Thursday.
Aiming to tackle the
growing menace of substance abuse among youth, particularly the students, a
moving theatrical performance - a short play - was performed by the team of
professional artists from DIPR, which delivered a compelling narrative centered
around the real-life dangers of drug addiction in Kashmir Valley.
The event which was held in
the auditorium of the school, drew an enthusiastic crowd of students and
teachers who acknowledged the threat and urged the continuous awareness
programs to keep this nuisance away from the schools.
By utilizing the techniques
of story-telling deeply carved out of lived experiences in Kashmir, the artists
presented painfully emotional scenes that showed how drugs can destroy
individuals and families, breaking the thin spirit of society.
The performers called for
strong action against drug abuse and implored students to stand for the right
choices in their lives and towards a drug-free future.
A spokesperson from the
artists' group stressed the need for large-scale awareness programs, especially
in educational institutions. "This is not going to stop at
awareness," he said; "We want to motivate students to always resist
the negetive peer pressure and become ambassadors of change in their
communities."
The Principal GHSS Zadibal,
Mr. Mohammad Shafi Lone, appreciated the performers for bringing serious and
impactful messages forward. "The message is clear: awareness is the first
step to prevention," he added.
He assured them that, alongside the school's commitment to holistic education, such awareness programs would continue in future.
Students vowed to stay away
from substances and aid in the awareness campaigns among their peers and
families.
