New Delhi, Feb 01: In a significant development, all the government-run secondary schools and primary healthcare centres (PHCs) in rural areas will get broadband connectivity through the BharatNet initiative.

This was announced by the Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman while announcing her Union Budget on February 1.

She said that Broadband connectivity will be provided to all government secondary schools and PHCs in rural areas under the BharatNet project.

BharatNet project aims to empower rural communities by bridging the digital divide and fostering inclusive growth.

It was earlier approved by the Union Cabinet on October 25 of 2011with an initiative to provide high-speed and affordable internet access to every gram panchayat nationwide.
