Srinagar, Feb 04: Believe it or not! The University of Kashmir seems to have adopted the maxim "Jack Of All Trades" in practice. In a fresh move, a professor at the varsity was Tuesday made the head of linguistics department, after being given additional charge of the Media Advisor and NSS Coordinator previously.
"We don't know what's happening. We are at odds to understand how one person can do justice with three assignments?", said a KU insider, wishing anonymity. "Will this individual teach students, head the department, work as NSS Coordinator or focus on media advisor's assignment. Only God knows".
Sources said it has become a new norm at KU to promote the additional charge syndrome which is badly affecting the varsity's functioning.
"One teacher from South campus Anantnag was recently given additional assignment at main campus. Today another professor of Pharmacy department at main campus was given additional assignment of director Kupwara campus. All this sans logic and reason, but that's what KU seems to be promoting and propagating," said a KU professor on the condition of anonymity.
The recent allocation of additional assignments to half a dozen teachers has not only led to allegations of favouritism, but also come in for criticism from students who allege that such assignments are depriving them of teaching time by teachers.
"Most teachers given additional assignments eventually shun their primary job of teaching and research. Then whole brunt is bone by contractual staff who are paid meagre amounts," the professor said.
