Jewel Chowk shootout: 11 arrested, 2 absconding: SSP Jammu

Jammu Feb 05: In a major breakthrough, the Jammu Police have arrested 11 accused in connection with the shootout that took place in Jewel Chowk Jammu.

Addressing media persons, SSP Jammu Joginder Singh said that the investigation were started soon after the shootout took place in Jewel Chowk Jammu on January 21 of 2025

During the shootout, a 30-year-old man, Sumit Jandial, was shot dead by car-borne assailants in Jammu.

"An unidentified criminal fired some gunshots and killed a man identified as  Sumit Jandial," SSP Jammu said.

He said the police after arriving at the scene shifted the injured to the hospital.

"We filed an FIR. Immediately after that, we formed different teams to investigate this case," SSP Jammu said.

He said that on the evening of the same day, the Police were able to crack the case and it was able to ascertain who were involved in the crime.

"We ascertained the number of people involved in the crime and also started interrogating the rest of the people involved," SSP Jammu said.

He said that after questioning different people and different parties of different places Police were coming closer to the case.

"After our investigation, we came to know that 13 people were involved in this incident. Out of them, we have arrested 11 people who are being interrogated," SSP Jammu said.

He however said that two people who were involved in this incident are absconding and efforts were on to apprehend them.

"Our investigation is based on three contours. One is the people who were involved in this incident besides those who are working behind the scenes and those who are involved in this incident," SSP Jammu said.

He said Police have identified the people involved in this incident and those who are working behind the scenes.

"We are still investigating them. As the investigation progresses, further revelation will be made public as well," SSP Jammu said.
