Mirwaiz Umar Farooq’s father-in-law passes away

CM Omar Abdullah, Altaf Bukhari others express condolences

Srinagar, Feb 27: Dr. Ghulam Sibtain Masoodi, father-in-law of Mirwaiz Umar Farooq, passed away late last night after a prolonged illness.

According to the family members, the condolences will be received at his residence, House No. 207, Sector B, Westend Colony, near Tengpora Bridge, Hyderpora, Srinagar, the family said.

Meanwhile, authorities have not permitted the funeral prayers at Jama Masjid as a precautionary measure and security was heightened around the mosque early morning today.

Chief Minister Omar Abdullah expressed his condolences to Mirwaiz.

"Inna Lillahi wa inna ilayhi raji'un. Sorry to hear about the demise of Dr. Sibtain Masoodi Sb, father-in-law of Mirwaiz Umar Farooq. May Allah grant the highest place in Jannat to Dr. Masoodi. My condolences to Mirwaiz and his loved ones," Omar Abdullah wrote on X.

J&K Apni Party President Syed Muhammad Altaf Bukhari condoled the demise.

"My heartfelt condolences to Mirwaiz Umar Farooq Sahib on the passing of his father-in-law, Dr. Ghulam Sibtain Masoodi, who departed for his heavenly abode late last night. Inna Lillahi Wa Inna Ilayhi Rajioon. May the Almighty Allah grant him the highest place in Jannah and give patience to the bereaved family to bear the pain of this profound loss," Bukhari wrote on X.

Grand Mufti of J&K, Mufti Nasir-ul-Islam, in a statement expressed his condolences.

"Sad to know about the demise of the father-in-law of Mirwaiz Umar Farooq Sb, Jenab Dr. Ghulam Sibtain Masoodi. My condolences to Mirwaiz Umar Farooq and other family members. On behalf of the Muslim Personal Law Board, I extend my condolences to Molvi Umar Farooq and other family members of Dr. Ghulam Sibtain Masoodi," he said.

Former minister and senior NC leader Ali Muhammad Sagar also extended his condolence message to Mirwaiz Umar Farooq.

"Inna Lillahi wa inna ilayhi raji'un. I extend my heartfelt condolences and express my deepest sympathies to @MirwaizKashmir Moulvi Muhammad Farooq sahab over the tragic passing of his father-in-law and brother of my valued colleague in JKNC Justice @masoodi_hasnain," he wrote on X.

"Prayers for magfirah of late Sibtain Masoodi Sahib and thoughts with both the bereaved families. Allah grant Jannat Ul Firdous to the departed. Ameen," the post reads.
