Snowfall aftermath: Electricity supply, road connectivity disrupted in Baramulla

Water level of Tawi river increases

Baramulla, Feb 28: The electricity supply and the road connectivity has been badly affected in the aftermath of the snowfall received across Kashmir.

The electricity supply in various parts of the Baramulla district has been snapped since Thursday evening.

The official however attributed the break in electricity supply to a power outage caused by snowfall. 

The disruption has led to significant hardships and inconvenience for the residents.

The officials in the Power Development Department (PDD) said the snowfall has damaged the 132 KV and 33 KV transmission lines.

"Efforts are underway to restore the power supply as early as possible," the official said.

Besides affecting electricity supply, the snowfall has also disrupted the road connectivity in the Uri area of north Baramulla district as well.

As per the reports pouring in from different areas, more than a dozen villages are disconnected with the tehsil headquarters Uri.

These villages include, Churanda, Basgra, Sohura, Mothal, Soura besides other areas.

Meanwhile the water levels of the  River Tawi, along with other rivers and streams, have risen significantly following heavy rainfall in the Jammu region.

The watermark is a few feet below the alert level.

The residents have been advised to exercise caution and refrain from going near the rivers until conditions improve.
