Srinagar, March
03: Former chief minister and president Peoples Democratic Party
(PDP) on Monday strongly pressed for the regularisation of Daily Wagers saying
that most of the departments are functioning becaue of these workers.
Addressing media persons in Srinagar, Mehbooba Mufti said
that these Daily Wagers were working in different departments for over 30 years
and should be regularised by thegovernment.
"Their life has turned so difficult. They have been
working for around 20 to 30 years. If these people are not in the department,
neither our electricity will work, nor
our water will work, nor our irrigation
will work, nor any department will work
for us," Mehbooba Mufti said.
She said that most of the department were able to run their
daily affairs because of these daily wagers.
"During my tenure as CM, I tried to help them by
bringing SRO 520 and initiated process of their regularisation as well. Biometric
of almost one lac Daily Wagers was done. But in the meantime our government did
not continue and the process of Daily Wagers was halted," she said.
Mehbooba Mufti said the present government can check the
records and can further process the files of Daily Wagers.
"If the government wants to, they will regularize them
under SRO 520," she said.
She further said that PDP through its legislators have
introduced a bill in the Legislative Assembly for the current budget session
and expressed hope that government will extend its support to them in this
regard.
"I hope the government will help us on this bill. We
have also written a letter to the BJP that this is a serious issue and they
should help us on this in Jammu and Kashmir," she said
She said PDP has also introduced a bill for safeguarding property
right.
"Our
people are fired from their jobs and at the time of recruitments, outsiders are
also included," she said.
