Jammu, Mar 6: Jammu and Kashmir Director General of Police (DGP) Nalin Prabhat on Thursday dismissed any notion of authority saying that he had no credentials of being a ruler and was posted to serve people of Jammu and Kashmir.

Speaking at during Thana Diwas at Jammu, DGP emphasised on the improved resource allocation, Police incentivisation and evolving technology to enhance  efficiency in law enforcement across the region.

He further announced that he has reduced his security cover by over 65 percent to cater shortage of manpower in the force. He said the move will ensure optimisation of the manpower in J&K Police.

“I have no credentials of being a ruler. I am here to serve in Jammu and Kashmir," he said.

He further attributed the rising menace of drug abuse among youth to the lack of parental control on the youth.

"If school-going children are involved in drug peddling, it reflects a lack of parental control in the society," he said.

On women’s safety, he warned that if an Investigating Officer (IO) fails to file a chargesheet within 60 days, strict action will be taken.

He further said that additional deployment was made even in Jammu to strengthen law and order.

Addressing concerns about deployment within the police force, Prabhat said that those who perform well will be rewarded with appropriate posting

"Officers who work for the country will get their desired postings immediately. Systemic changes take time. Rome was not built in a day,” said while hinting towards a long-term approach to improve the force’s functioning in J&K.

DGP Prabhat however accused Pakistan’s Army and ISI of controlling narcotics smuggling through terror groups.
