Truck driver killed in multi-vehicle collision inside Banihal-Qazigund tunnel

Banihal, March 7: A truck driver lost his life on the spot after a multi-vehicle collision inside the Banihal-Qazigund four-lane tunnel late Thursday night.

According to police officials, the incident occurred when several trucks, traveling in a row towards Jammu from the Kashmir Valley, collided inside the tunnel.

The cause of the accident was yet to be ascertained, officials said.

An official said a rescue team comprising police personnel and members of the Athan company, responsible for tunnel maintenance, rushed to the spot and evacuated the injured driver.

"He was immediately shifted to Banihal hospital, where doctors declared him brought dead," the official said.

The deceased has been identified as Sukhdev Singh, son of Bakhtwar Singh, a resident of Pallipora, Punjab.

Authorities have registered a case at Banihal police station, and an investigation is underway to ascertain the exact circumstances leading to the accident.
