Jammu, Mar 8: Man-Animal conflict has claimed 32 lives while rendering 269 others injured during the last two years in J&K, the government informed the Legislative Assembly on Saturday.
In response to a query raised by MLA Saifullah Mir, the government, said an amount of Rs 2.76 crore was paid as compensation to the victims and their families during this period.
The Minister in-charge of Forest, Ecology, and Environment Department, in his reply said that 16 people lost their lives in 2023-24, while 16 deaths were reported in 2024-25 due to man-animal conflicts.
He said the number of people injured in such incidents was 124 in 2023-24 and 145 in 2024-25.
"269 injuries were reported in the past two years," the minister in his reply said.
The minister in-charge in his reply further clarified that compensation was being paid in accordance with the government order No. 139 JK (FST) of 2023, dated: 28.06.2023.
"In 2023-24, Rs 1.21 crore was disbursed as compensation, while in 2024-25, the amount increased to Rs 1.55 crore," the minister in his reply said.
