Gulmarg row: Ansari, Aditya spar on 'X' as organisers pull down 'vulgar' reel

KS News Desk

Srinagar March 10: Former minister and senior Peoples Conference leader Syed Imran Reza Ansari and senior journalist Aditya Raj Koul engaged in an argument on X over the Gulmarg Fashion Show after the organizers pulled down the video from social media.

Journalist Aditya Raj Koul wrote on his X handle that Gulmarg's snowy slopes recently hosted a stunning fashion show, showcasing Kashmir's peaceful revival.

"But Islamist radicals & local politicians are up in arms, deeming it a 'national security threat'! Talk about misplaced priorities! Frustrated folks! #Kashmir #FashionForPeace," he wrote on X.

In response to his post on X, Syed Imran Reza Ansari wrote: "Oh come on Aditya , this is against your religion as well as mine. This is Vulgarity and should not be allowed at a place which has been abode of Sants and Saints."

Ansari questioned the journalist on always labeling it as Islamist and Radical.

"Why do you always label it as Islamist and radical. It's a threat to our culture and not to Nation as you always want to please your agency friends who brand this Vulgarity as Normalcy," his post on X reads.

Meanwhile, an Indian holiday lifestyle brand issued an apology for its misstep during the holy month of Ramadan and pulled down its reel from social media handles.

In a post on X, SHIVAN & NARRESH, India’s first luxury holiday brand, expressed regret over the incident. “We deeply regret any hurt caused by our recent presentation in Gulmarg during the holy month of Ramadan. Our sole intention was to celebrate creativity and the ski & après-ski lifestyle, without any desire to offend anyone or any religious sentiments," reads a post on X.

"Respect for all cultures and traditions is at the heart of our values, and we acknowledge the concerns raised. We sincerely apologize for any unintended discomfort and appreciate the feedback from our community. We remain committed to being more mindful and respectful," the post reads.

As already reported, a fashion show held in the world famous ski resort Gulmarg during the holy month of Ramzan evoked widespread criticism.

Kashmir’s chief priest, Mirwaiz Umar Farooq said obscenity in the name of tourism promotion will not be tolerated.

“Outrageous! That In the holy month of Ramzan an obscene fashion show is organised in #Gulmarg, pictures and videos from which have gone viral sparking shock and anger among people. How could it be tolerated in the valley known for its Sufi, saint culture and the deeply religious outlook of its people?” Mirwaiz wrote in a post on his X handle.

He said those involved in organising the event should be held accountable.

“Those involved should be immediately held accountable. Such obscenity in the name of tourism promotion will not be tolerated in #Kashmir!," the post reads.

In wake of this, chief minister Omar Abdullah said he has sought a report from the concerned local authorities.

The Chief Minister's Office replied to Mirwaiz's tweet, on X stating that the  shock and anger were totally understandable.

"The images I have seen show a complete disregard for local sensitivities & that too during this holy month. My office has been in touch with the local authorities & I’ve asked for a report to be submitted within the next 24 hours. Further action, as appropriate, will follow from this report," the office of the J&K CM replied to Mirwaiz's tweet on X.
