No plan to waive off power bill for terminally ill patients, fishermen community: Govt

KS News Desk

Srinagar, Mar 12: The Jammu and Kashmir government on Wednesday informed the Legislative Assembly that there were no plans to waive electricity bills for households with terminally ill patients or those belonging to the fishermen community.

In response to a query by MLA Hilal Akbar Lone, the minister in-charge informed the House that in its ongoing amnesty scheme, 275,081 domestic consumers have benefited from a 100 percent waiver on interest surcharges on outstanding electricity bills.

"Under the Antyodaya Anna Yojana (AAY) category, households of domestic consumers would receive 200 units of electricity free of cost, as announced by the government recently," the minister in-charge informed the House.

The minister also clarified that there was no specific provision for terminally ill patients or the fishermen community. (KNO)
