IUST holds Philosophers Meet

Awantipora, March 12: The Islamic University of Science and Technology (IUST) Wednesday organised a Philosophers Meet on the theme "The Present and Future of Philosophy".

The program was organized by the Department of Philosophy which brought together scholars and academicians to deliberate on philosophy’s evolving role in contemporary society.

During the inaugural session, Prof. Ayaz Hassan Moon, Dean Academic Affairs, IUST, highlighted the Department of Philosophy’s potential to address modern challenges.

Registrar IUST Prof. Abdul Wahid Makhdoomi emphasized the interdisciplinary impact of philosophy, while Prof. Afroz Ahmad Bissati, Dean, School of Humanities and Social Sciences, IUST, discussed the role of Islamic philosophy in shaping intellectual thought.

Prof. Humayun Rashid, Professor of Practice at IUST chairing session on The Argument and Action of Philosophy, explored philosophy’s role in environmental sustainability, governance, and ethics, urging critical analysis of societal challenges.

In the session on Outreach: What Is to Be Done? Dr. Ruheela Hassan emphasized extending philosophy beyond classrooms and conferences to enhance awareness and engagement.

The event witnessed active participation from faculty members, heads of departments, and representatives from various institutions, including Prof. Tabasum (Principal, GDC Beerwah), Dr. Jaleel Ehsan (HoD GDC Boys Sopore), Dr. Saliha Shah (GDC Women Baramulla), Dr. Mudasir (GDC Women Kupwara), Dr. Mudasir Tantray (AAAM Degree College Bemina), Zahid Nabi (GDC Shopian), Fariz Gulzar (GDC Women Anantnag), and M Iqbal (SP Higher Secondary School Srinagar).

The program was coordinated by Dr. Muzaffar Ali, Coordinator, Department of Philosophy, IUST who also emphasized on the need for continued discussions to further promote philosophical inquiry in Kashmir.
