Srinagar, March 19: More than 50 percent government schools in Zadibal constituency of Srinagar district are without permanent accommodation, exposing the infrastructural gaps in the education sector.
As per the official statistics, 15 out of 29 schools established in Zadibal constituency of Srinagar district lack permanent campus and are operating from rented accommodations, depriving students from basic facilities in the institutions.
In a written reply to a question asked by MLA Zadibal Tanvir Sadiq, the minister for education Sakina Itoo in a written reply informed the J&K Legislative Assembly that out of 29 government schools functioning in Zadibal Constituency, 14 were operating in government owned buildings while 15 schools do not have government-owned permanent buildings and are operating from rented buildings.
MLA had asked the government whether the schools in Zadibal Constituency were lacking basic infrastructure including proper classrooms, sanitation and drinking water facilities.
The minister admitted that few schools operating from government owned buildings were facing dearth of basic facilities.
"Among government operated school buildings only four schools are facing shortage of classrooms due to non availability of land," the minister in her written reply, informed the Legislative Assembly.
The government however claimed that all the 29 schools in Zadibal constituency were equipped with proper drinking water facilities and proper sanitation.
"The Zadibal constituency comprises three educational zones-Hawal, lddgah and Gulab Bagh and majority of the schools fall under the jurisdiction of Zone Hawal," the minister informed the House.
The minister in her written reply informed the House that 25 schools fall in Hawal zone while only four schools fall in the jurisdiction of zone Iddgah and Gulab Bagh.
As per the written reply of the government, 14 out of 24 schools functioning in Zone Hawal are operating from government owned buildings which include three higher secondary schools, four high schools and seven middle schools.
"11 schools including one high school, five each middle schools and primary schools are operating from rented accommodation in the Hawal education zone," the written reply from the government reads.
It reads that one high school and one Middle school are operating from rented accommodation in Iddgah zone while two primary schools are operating from rented accommodation in education zone Gulab Bagh.
