Baramulla, March 22: The Government Degree College (GDC) Baramulla successfully hosted the second round of the Viksit Bharat Youth Parliament (VBYP) 2025.
Baramulla was the nodal district for hosting VBYP, accompanied by the associated districts of Kupwara and Bandipora.
The theme of the event was "One Nation, One Election: Paving the Way for Viksit Bharat," offering a platform for students to engage in intellectual discussions and present their perspectives on the vision of a developed India. Selected candidates from this round will represent the nodal district of Baramulla at the State-Level Viksit Bharat Youth Parliament.
The event was coordinated by Prof. Ishfaq-ul-Rehman, Assistant Professor of Public Administration at GDC Baramulla.
The participants were evaluated by a distinguished jury comprising Dr. Ibrahim Khwaja Assistant Professor of Political Science, Aabida War a prominent social activist from J&K, Arshid Ahmed Khan Assistant Commissioner of Revenue Baramulla, Prof. Reyaz Ahmad Wani Assistant Professor of Political Science and Dr. Nazir Ahmad Mir Assistant Professor of Public Administration.
After a thorough evaluation, the jury will select the top 10 candidates who will advance to the State Level.
Prof. Tariq Chalkoo, Staff Secretary of GDC Baramulla and Vice Chairman of the event, inaugurated the event and extended a warm welcome to participants from Kupwara, Bandipora, Sopore, and Srinagar.
Students shared insights on topics including budget planning, infrastructure development, healthcare, governance, and public service, stressing how Viksit Bharat could help in bringing about a progressive change in Indian democracy by addressing challenges like poverty and unemployment.
Participants showcased passionate and thought-provoking views at the occasion.
"Voices rose, ideas shined, a vision for Bharat, well-defined. Debating change, shaping the way, a stronger nation starts today," said Syed Adeeba.
Another participant, Shafqat Ahmad Wani, questioned that if the idea was so powerful, where was it till now.
"If it existed in India, why was it erased," he asked.
Following the deliberations, the three top candidates who will represent Baramulla at the State-Level Viksit Bharat Youth Parliament were declared: Ulfat Hafiz, Shahid Dar, and Tasaduq Hussain.
The Principal of GDC Baramulla congratulated the participants and the organizing committee, expressing appreciation for the remarkable speeches delivered.
"I am glad to see such talented speakers who presented their thoughts so passionately. My sincere gratitude goes to the organizing committee, NSS volunteers, participants, the jury, the Head of the Department of Media Studies, and the media students, especially the girls," he said.
Jury members also shared their insights on the participants and the significance of the event.
Arshid Ahmed Khan, Assistant Commissioner of Revenue, Baramulla said he wanted to hear different perspectives on the topic, but no participant presented a contrasting viewpoint.
"I encourage participants to approach topics with an open mind," he said.
Miss Aabida War, a social activist said she was pleased to see a significant number of female participants.
"It is essential to change societal norms. Every citizen matters, and we must all take responsibility," she said.
The event concluded with the distribution of certificates of participation to all students by the chairman, vice chairman, and other dignitaries.
Mementos were also presented to the jury members as a token of appreciation for their valuable contributions.
