Indian Army contributing to promotion of Border tourism in Uri: MLA Sajad Shafi

Jammu, March 24: National Conference Leader and Member of Legislative Assembly (MLA) from Uri constituency, Dr Sajad Shafi on Monday said that Indian Army was playing an important role in promoting Border tourism in Uri sector of Baramulla district.

Talking to media persons on the sidelines of the ongoing J&K budget session in the Legislative Assembly, MLA Uri said that Uri has potential for Border, Pilgrimage and eco tourism.

Referring to border tourism, he said people have been coming since last year to Uri to explore borders and other higher reaches.

"Our army units have made it very easy. People are coming to see Kaman Aman Situ. They see this part of the border," he said.

he said that Markhor, a rare species, is found only in Limber and Lachipura wildlife sanctuary.

"People come to see it, it can be promoted as well," he said.

He said that Uri sector was rich in Pilgrimage tourism as it has Baba Rangi Imam, Baba Kazinag, Baba Farid.

"So people can come and stay at these three places," he said.

He said that Salamabad TRC which was utilised by industries department for trade should be handed over to tourism department.

"I have also told the chief minister and the deputy chief minister that cross LoC trade is not going on now on this route. Till the time our new TRC is established, it should be given back to tourism, there are arrangements to stay there, there is also a cafeteria, people will stay there for two days," he said.

He said that government can make a tracking route from Trikajan to Gulmarg via Banali.

"We can make it a trekking route. There is a lot of potential for trekking there," he said.

He said a new road is being constructed from Banali to Gulmarg which will make it convenient for the tourists in Gulmarg to visit Uri.

"So the government shoudl bring Uri on tourism map so that the people coming to Kashmir from different states and other areas explore the tourists places in Uri," he said.
