Kupwara Police thwart drug trafficking attempt, Nab peddler with narcotics

Srinagar March 27: Kupwara Police apprehended a drug peddler and seized a significant consignment of narcotics during a surprise naka checking at Halmatpora.

As per the handout issued here, an Eeco vehicle bearing Registration No. JK09B-6928 traveling from Halmatpora towards Kupwara was signaled to stop at checkpoint strategically established at Halmatpora.

The check point was set up as part of the inspection during routine patrolling.

"Instead of complying, the driver made a desperate attempt to flee but was swiftly intercepted and overpowered by the alert police personnel," the Police handout reads.

It reads that up on preliminary questioning, the driver was identified as Akhtar Hussain Mir, son of Ghulam Hassan Mir, a resident of Kupwara.

"A thorough search led to the recovery of 61 grams of heroin-like substance from his possession, confirming his involvement in illicit narcotics trade," the Police handout reads.

It reads that an FIR (No. 85/2025) under relevant sections of law has been lodged at Police Station Kupwara.

"Further investigation is in progress to uncover the larger network behind this illegal activity," it reads.

The handout reads that Kupwara Police remains firm in its commitment to "dismantle the drug trade and ensuring a safer, drug-free society."
