Chairs NCORD meeting to review measures
for curbing drug menace

Kupwara, April 3: Deputy
Commissioner (DC) Kupwara Ayushi Sudan on Thursday chaired the meeting of the
District Level Committee of Narco Coordination (NCORD) to review the measures
put in place for curbing drug abuse in the district.
At the outset, the Deputy
Commissioner took a detailed appraisal from concerned officers regarding the
present scenario of drug related occurrences, various issues related to menace
of drug addiction, its control and rehabilitation and areas of concern.
Deputy Commissioner
meticulously reviewed the implementation of the measures taken and progress
achieved to eliminate drug abuse and its peddling.
She took feedback from the
members of the Committee who presented the latest report related to action
taken against drug-addiction and drug trafficking in the District.
DC also emphasized the officers
including enforcement agencies for identification and close vigil of entry
points, hot spots of drugs, public places and abandoned buildings.
She also laid thrust on
further intensifying IEC campaigns at Schools and Colleges levels to sensitize
students and common masses about ill-effects of drugs.
She sought close
coordination between Health, Police, Education and other line departments for
consolidated efforts towards eradication of drug menace.
DC meticulously reviewed
the functioning of Drug De-addiction Centre Kupwara and Addiction Treatment
Facility Centre (ATFC) Handwara and stressed for upscaling of the therapeutic
management and proper counseling of the drug addicts which can help the addicts
to come out of the menace.
She also reviewed the
progress of providing self employment opportunities to the drug victims who
have been recovered so that they can live a dignified life in the society.
Nodal Officer for NMBA
Campaign, Mudassir Ahmad also spoke and briefed the officers about the Nasha Mukt Bharat Abiyan Campaign which
is set to be launched on April 7th in the district.
Further, she impressed upon
all the concerned departments to ensure their participation in the campaign for
mass awareness among the people about ill effects of drugs. She directed the
officers to take separate review meeting of their respective subordinate staff
and field functionaries for smooth conduct of the Nasha Mukt Bharat Campaign.
The meeting was attended by SSP Kupwara, ASP
Handwara, CMO, CEO, Medical Superintendent DH Handwara, Assistant Drug
controller, Tehsildars, besides other concerned officers.
