Srinagar, April 07: In a significant development, a 29 member Parliamentary Standing Committee on Rural Development and Panchayati Raj is scheduled to visit Kashmir on April 17 to review the implementation of key rural development schemes in Jammu and Kashmir.
The Parliamentary Standing Committee comprises MPs from both the Lok Sabha and Rajya Sabha.
A top official told Kashmir Square that the high-level panel will assess the progress and impact of several flagship government schemes in Srinagar and Pahalgam.
"The Parliament committee will assess Mahatma Gandhi National Rural Employment Guarantee Act (MGNREGA), Deen Dayal Antyodaya Yojana - National Rural Livelihood Mission (DAY-NRLM), Pradhan Mantri Awaas Yojana-Grameen (PMAY-G), and the Pradhan Mantri Gram Sadak Yojana (PMGSY)," the official said.
He said the committee will interact with local administration, Panchayati Raj representatives, and beneficiaries to evaluate the effectiveness of these programmes in improving rural livelihoods, housing, road connectivity, and employment opportunities.
The visit comes at a time when the government is pushing for greater accountability and transparency in the execution of centrally sponsored schemes in rural and remote regions of the Union Territory.
According to officials, the committee is also expected to gather feedback and recommend measures to enhance implementation and address any existing bottlenecks.
This visit of MPs to Valley is a step towards strengthening grassroots governance and ensuring last-mile delivery of rural development initiatives in Jammu and Kashmir.
