Srinagar, April 15: The district education authorities in south Kashmir's Pulwama district on Tuesday barred the educational institutions form observing half-day school holidays on Fridays saying that such practice was 'unauthorised'.

The Chief Education Officer Pulwama (CEO) Pulwama on has issued an explanation to three private schools of Pulwama district and asked them to discontinue the practice of observing half day holiday on Fridays.

The issue came to fore after CEO visited various examination centres on April 11 of 2025 (Friday) to assess the arrangements put in place for smooth and hassle-free conduct of JNV Special test examination.

"It  was found that your institutions have been observing half-day on Fridays without any formal approval or sanction from the competent authority," the notice reads.

It reads that such practice was in violation of the Government-notified Holiday Calendar and contravenes with the norms governing the functioning of educational institutions.

"All the government and government recognized private educational institutions are expected to strictly adhere to the holiday as well at academic calendar and prescribed working hours issued by the administrative authorities," the notice reads.

As per the notice, CEO Pulwama has directed the three private schools explain their position within one clay positively, failing which it shall be deemed that they have nothing to say in their defence.

"Action as warranted under rules shall be initiated against you," reads the notice issued to three private schools.

"Moreover, it is also advised that such practices be discontinued forthwith," it reads.

The copy of the explanation has been sent to all heads of institutions  of government and private schools of the district for information and with the advice to ensure strict adherence to the academic and holiday calendar issued by the government.
