Srinagar, Apr 16: In a latest development, the Director School Education Kashmir (DSEK), G N Itoo on Wednesday said there was no shortage of staff in government schools established in rural areas.
He said that around 60 percent process of rationalisation has been completed while the remaining will be finalised in the coming days.
"The government schools have registered over 70000 new admissions of students in the recent enrolment drive out of which 35,000 were enrolled at lower primary level, 1500 out-of-school children were also brought back to the educational institutes. More than 1200 specially-abled students were also enrolled in schools during the drive," he told reporters during his visit to Kupwara district.
He however attributed the success of new admissions to teachers, parents and civil societies while acknowledging their role in achieving this milestone.
“Teachers and other concerned stakeholders have left no stone unturned in making this enrollment drive a grand success. Our focus now is on sustaining this success," he said.
About the district wise performance, G N Itoo said the frontier district Kupwara has emerged among the top performers in the enrollment drive.
About the rented schools, DSEK said the non availability of land had was a major challenge which, especially in urban areas due to which some schools were operating from rented accommodations.
"But steps are being taken to address the issue in a phased manner. We have provisions for additional classrooms under Samagra Shiksha which are being worked out. Our priority is girls’ schools.” he said.
About the school picnics, DSEK said that there were no blanket ban on school picnics or excursions. However, he said that the education Minister while chairing a meeting with departments issued Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs) to ensure the safety of the student.
"As per the SOPs, the Head of Institutions have been asked to seek prior approval for excursions wherein concerned ZEOs have been designated as the officers for middle schools, CEOs for high and higher secondary schools, and for inter-district trips," he said.
He said that the concerned officials are mandatorily supposed to seek permission from the DSEK for any outing, picnic or excursions.
The director sought public cooperation, especially from HOIs and students, to ensure safe and smooth excursions in the days ahead.
