IUST celebrates International Biodiversity Day, hosts capacity building program on NEP implementation

Srinagar, May 23: The Mantaqi Centre for Science & Society (MCSS) of Islamic University of Science and Technology (IUST) celebrated International Biodiversity Day at the campus.

The event was organised in collaboration with Mantaqi Memorial Higher Secondary School to promote environmental awareness and inspire collective responsibility for biodiversity conservation.

The program commenced with a plantation drive on the university campus, followed by an engaging session at Mantaqi Memorial Higher Secondary School, where Manzoor Javaid—popularly known as the "Herbal Man of Kashmir" conducted an engaging session on the importance of preserving biodiversity and reconnecting with nature.

He also conducted a live demonstration on the medicinal properties of the local herb Ziziphus.

A quiz competition aimed at enhancing awareness and interest in environmental issues was also organised as part of the program.

The event was sponsored by Al-Qasim Business Group, Awantipora, and SJT Biotech Innovations Pvt. Ltd., Anantnag.


In a separate function, IUST organised a comprehensive Capacity Building Program focused on Media Outreach and the National Education Policy (NEP) 2020.

During the event, special emphasis was given on the National Credit Framework (NCrF).

The program was attended by all heads of departments, university officers, deans, directors, and coordinators of various centers at IUST.

The media outreach sessions organised by the Public Relations and Media Centre IUST highlighted the pivotal role of media—both mainstream and social—in promoting education, with particular attention to enhancing outreach in rural and underserved area.

Discussions emphasized the strategic use of media platforms to raise awareness, improve access to educational resources, and build institutional visibility.

A special session was delivered by Dean Academic Affairs Prof. A.H. Moon who provided a detailed overview of the National Credit Framework.

He underscored the importance of implementing NCrF across different educational levels to foster flexibility, multidisciplinary learning, and academic mobility in line with the NEP 2020 vision.
