World Environment Day: Principal Al Hilal Public School Meelyal highlights environmental responsibility

KS News Desk

Kupwara, June 5: Principal of Al Hilal Public School Meelyal Ishfaq Sheikh on Thursday delivered a compelling message underscoring the importance of environmental awareness.

He stressed the collective responsibility of society particularly the younger generation.

"We are not mere residents of this Earth; we are its guardians, entrusted with the responsibility to protect and preserve the natural world around us,” said Ishfaq.

He emphasized that the Earth’s resources are a divine trust, and it is both a religious and civic obligation to use them wisely and sustainably.

This year’s theme, “Every Action Counts,” was echoed in his address.

He encouraged students, teachers, and the wider community to adopt eco-friendly practices in their daily lives—such as planting trees, conserving water, reducing plastic usage, and maintaining cleanliness in homes, schools, and public spaces.

He added that environmental protection does not begin with large policies or governments—it begins with us, in our homes and classrooms.

"Even small actions, when taken collectively, lead to powerful change," he said.

The school, which follows a CBSE-type curriculum with activity-based learning, actively promotes environmental awareness through eco-club activities, plantation drives, and student-led initiatives.

Ishfaq  also reminded listeners of the saying of Prophet Muhammad (SAW): "If a Muslim plants a tree or sows seeds, and then a bird, or a person or an animal eats from it, it is regarded as a charitable gift (Sadaqah). (Bukhari)."

He urged all students to become environmental ambassadors within their families and neighborhoods. “Let World Environment Day not be a one-day observance, but a call to action for a lifelong commitment to protect our planet,” he said.

The school community at Al Hilal Public School pledged to continue its efforts in nurturing a generation that respects and protects the environment for a sustainable and greener tomorrow.
