Sopore Police wrap 2025 with major strikes on crime, drugs, cyber fraud

Register 60 NDPS cases, attach 10 properties, destroy drugs worth Rs 94 lacs, seize 599 vehicles, recover Rs 81 lacs in cyber fraud

Sopore, Dec 31: Sopore Police recorded substantial achievements across multiple domains during the year 2025, reaffirming its firm commitment to crime prevention, public safety, community engagement, and zero tolerance towards drugs, crime, and anti-social activities.

During the year, Sopore Police, registered 60 cases under the NDPS Act, achieving an impressive disposal rate of 90.90%, and executed 20 warrants under the PIT NDPS Act. As part of sustained action against organised crime and criminal networks, 10 properties were attached, including 07 properties of proclaimed offenders and 03 properties linked to NDPS cases.

Narcotics and psychotropic substances worth over ₹94 lakh were seized and destroyed. Property worth approximately ₹40 lakh was recovered in burglary and theft cases, while stolen vehicles valued at over ₹10 lakh were also recovered during the year.

Alongside enforcement, Sopore Police carried out a comprehensive anti-drug campaign through 125 awareness programmes, 12 rallies, workshops, community engagement programmes, medical camps, debates, and a T-20 Cricket Tournament, aimed at sensitising youth and the wider community against drug abuse.

To strengthen police-public relations and participative policing, Sopore Police conducted over 90 Thana-Divas, more than 60 PCPG meetings, over 30 Civic Action Programme (CAP) activities, and several other public interaction initiatives, fostering trust and cooperative policing across the district.

In order to ensure effective implementation and public understanding of the reformed legal framework, 69 awareness programmes were organised on the new criminal laws during the year.

Special traffic arrangements were made during peak periods, particularly during the seasonal fruit trade. Enforcement action resulted in 599 vehicles seized and 903 challans issued, contributing to improved traffic discipline and road safety.

A focused crackdown on illegal mining led to the seizure of more than 200 vehicles and imposition of fines amounting to over ₹37 lakh, ensuring protection of natural resources and public property.

In the domain of cyber safety, Sopore Police recovered over ₹81 lakh in cyber fraud cases and disposed of 249 financial fraud complaints and 97 social media complaints. Preventive action was taken against 43 adverse social media handles, several lost mobile phones were recovered, fake social media accounts were blocked, and propaganda handles were identified and acted upon. Additionally, over 10 cyber awareness programmes were conducted, supported by round-the-clock monitoring of suspect online activities.
