Srinagar, June 10: The Vice Chancellor (VC) Kashmir University (KU) Prof. Nilofer Khan on Tuesday said that during her tenure she tried to organize the system and made several interventions wherever needed to revamp admission calendar, examination and IT services in the varsity.

"Universities don't come up overnight, they are developed over the years, but definitely during my tenure, I tried to organize the system, put in where we have to intervene, whether it is technology, examination, academic calendar, recruitment. Wherever we had some loopholes, tried to plug them up," she said.

The VC was addressing media persons in wake of the recent A++ grade awarded by NAAC to the Kashmir University.

"We are in front of you with our head high, that we have come up to the expectations of our society," she said.

Briefing about the recruitment, VC KU sad that recruitment was their major achievement.

"In spite of all odds, we have been able to do at least 50% of the recruitments, in teaching and non-teaching as well. We did some other recruitments and few more are in pipeline. Our target is to complete it by the end of November," she said.

She said KU was dear to everyone and it does not belong to any individual in the university.

"It belongs to the society of which we are very much aware. We are doing our day-to-day business, keeping in our mind that we are accountable to the society," she said.

She said the varsity administration, other staff worked very hard for months together to achieve NAAC A++ grade.

"Believe me, it was not easy. It was a very hard work. We know that institutes don't come up overnight. They develop over the years pertaining to the development of the university. It really needs a vision and a mission to grow from B++ to A++ NAAC grade," she said.

"I am so thankful to all my teaching and non-teaching fraternity, students, research scholars, society, bureaucracy, Chancellor, Pro-Chancellor, education minister who always were very much concerned about the accreditation of the university," she said.

she further added that NAAC Peer team visit was delayed because of their own issues which they had.

"They took some time and at last gave us the dates from May 29 to 31 of 2025," she said.

Briefing about the fresh NAAC assessment, VC KU said two people visited the campus physically while five people were connected online to supervise the physical visit of two NAAC memebers.

"It was not an easy task. All the teams including my IT team and examination, everybody coordinated in a very well manner and gave their best, for the honor of the institution," she said.

She recalled her days as alumni of the University saying that she has spent almost 40 years in this university and has seen the varsity growing to the present status.

"It has come to such a stature, we can compete globally with any university. I am very much sure about it and very much confident," she said.

She however said that attaining A++ grade will not be the end as the varsity has to move forward, have more vision, come up to the expectation of a society be at the global level or the national level.

"Definitely we will work on it and definitely we will see how we come forward," she said.

Prof. Nilofer Khan said the stature of this university is so high as its two satellite campuses in Leh and Kargil are now a university in Ladakh UT.

"We started those campuses and they were our campuses. NIT was a regional engineering college of this university, it is a national institute now," she said.

VC KU said that their leading five colleges of Srinagar are now constituent colleges of Cluster University Srinagar (CUS).

"So, you can imagine the stature of this university, how big it is and what challenges it has faced. We have come through so many challenges, but in spite of that, we have never compromised on the quality of education," she said.

She said the current NAAC accreditation process was completely different from the previous accreditations.

"The current system is very robust, transparent. We were not allowed to give a flower bouquet to the NAAC team. I was not knowing who was coming by the time two members arrived in the campus," she said.
