Meer Javeed

Handwara, June 14: Scores of  local youth on Saturday staged a protest against the Tehsil administration over its decision to convert playfield of Pal Pora Qaziabad into agriculture land.

The youth hailing from Pal pora, Thoker pora, Resripora, Khaipora and adjoining areas assembled at Baramulla -Handwara highway  on Saturday morning and stopped the traffic movement.

Locals said that Tehsil  administration wants to convert  playground into agricultural land for  crops which is grave injustice with thousands of local youth who play cricket and football on this field.

"Every day on an average hundreds of youth play at this ground,” said a local who was part of the protest.

This is historical fields that have given  a number of good cricketers and footballers,” he said, asking: “where would the local youth and children play in case the field is converted into agricultural land for maize crops.”

Another local player who was part of the protest said that very few people don not play cricket or football in this village  and for their sake tehsil  administration can not snatch this valuable asset from locals.

“It is not about professional players or teams. It is about the rights of local youth and children. Where will they go and play if you go and convert every field into a agricultural land ,” he asked.

When contacted,  Additional  Deputy Commisioner Handwara   Javid  Masoodi  said that  Deputy Commisioner Kupwara has framed a committee for this issue and the commitee will  submit a final report to the administration in this regard.
