Jammu, July 25: Minister for Jal Shakti, Forest, Ecology & Environment and Tribal Affairs, Javed Ahmed Rana has written to Chief Minister Omar Abdullah, demanding a judicial probe into the killing of tribal youth.
The move comes in wake of the recent killing of a tribal youth in an alleged encounter in Jammu.
In his letter dated July 25, Minister Rana expressed deep concern over the growing resentment and fear among the tribal community following the encounter.
“Several delegations have approached me, expressing serious apprehensions about what they view as an extra-judicial killing,” the minister said.
Highlighting the urgency of the situation, Rana urged the Chief Minister to intervene personally. “I believe that the simmering discontent can only be addressed effectively through a judicial enquiry, which will not only ensure transparency but also reassure the Government’s commitment to justice and fairness,” he wrote.
Calling the matter “sensitive,” the minister said that ordering a judicial enquiry would send a strong message of accountability and restore public trust in the administration.
The letter comes a day after the alleged encounter, which has triggered strong reactions and protests from civil society groups and tribal representatives, who have called for an impartial investigation into the incident.
