Cloudburst hits Ghati Kathua; 4 dead, several injured

Kathua, Aug 17: Four persons were killed and several others injured after a cloudburst hit Ghati area of Kathua district on Sunday morning.

An official said that four persons died and several others were injured, while the rescue operation was underway, the official said.

The incident damaged several houses, local police station, railway track, and stretches of the National Highway in Janglot and adjoining areas, official said.

Rescue operations are underway to clear debris and provide relief to the affected families, news agency KNC reported.

Meanwhile authorities issued weather advisory in view of cloudburst in Kathua in wake of heavy to very heavy rainfall reported across the district.

As per the advisory people have been advised to avoid rivers, streams, nallahs, hilly and landslide-prone areas.

Public has been advised to remain alert to risk of flash floods and landslides.
