Says 10 of 13 posts vacant, questions CM over delay in appointments
KS News Desk
Srinagar, Aug 24: Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) leader and MLA Pulwama, Waheed-ur-Rehman Parra, on Sunday questioned the Jammu and Kashmir government over vacancies in the Flood Control Department despite repeated flood alerts being issued.
In a post on X, Parra said that Chief Minister & LG issue flood alerts, yet 10 months into the elected government, J&K still has no Chief Engineer Flood Control.
"Of 13 sanctioned posts, 10 remain vacant despite 8 promotions being due. Just last week, hundreds died in cloudbursts and this is despite the devastating floods of 2014. What is the CM waiting for?," the post reads.
Parra said the delay in filling key positions has left the flood management system vulnerable at a time when people are already facing the threat of heavy rains, swollen rivers and cloudbursts.
He urged the government to immediately fill the vacancies and strengthen the flood control mechanism to avoid repeating the mistakes of the past.
