Srinagar, Sep 01: A mega event under the Mera Resham Mera Abhimaan campaign was organized at Sarnal, Anantnag on Monday.
The event was organised with the objective of promoting sericulture and empowering farmers through awareness on marketing and value addition in the silk sector.
Secretary and CEO Central Silk Board (CSB), Bengaluru P. Sivakumar who is also the Director General, International Sericulture Commission was the chief guest at the occasion.
Other dignitaries present included Aijaz Ahmad Bhat Director Sericulture Development Department (SDD), J&K, Dr. Sardar SinghDirector, CSB-Central Sericultural Research & Training Institute (CSR&TI) Pampore, Ghulam Nabi Additional Director, SDD J&K besides senior scientists of CSB-CSR&TI Pampore and officers and officials of SDD J&K.
The one-day awareness programme on “Marketing and Value Addition” was jointly organized by CSR&TI, Pampore, in collaboration with SDD, J&K.
As part of the event, progressive farmers were felicitated for their contributions to the sericulture sector.
Farmers were encouraged to adopt improved practices to enhance both the quality and quantity of cocoon production, while youth were motivated to avail benefits from various state and central government schemes in pre- and post-cocoon sectors.
A key highlight of the programme was the inauguration of the Cocoon Auction Market for Spring 2025 by the Member Secretary, CSB, Bengaluru.
It aimed at providing a direct marketing platform to farmers for better price realization.
The awareness programme witnessed the enthusiastic participation of over 350 farmers, stakeholders including buyers from West Bengal.
The event concluded with a field visit by the Member Secretary and dignitaries to assess the ground realities in far-flung areas and interact directly with farmers.
The initiative marked a significant step towards strengthening the sericulture sector in Jammu & Kashmir by bridging the gap between farmers, researchers, policymakers and market stakeholders.
