House rejects PDP MLA Waheed Parra’s Bill on Land Ownership Rights

Srinagar, Oct 28: House on Tuesday rejected a bill moved by PDP MLA Waheed Parra that sought to grant ownership rights to individuals occupying land without legal entitlement.

The bill was introduced by Parra during the ongoing session of the Jammu and Kashmir Legislative Assembly. However, Chief Minister Omar Abdullah opposed the proposal, arguing that land illegally occupied could not be regularised or converted into ownership.

“Those who are living on land illegally cannot be granted ownership rights,” Omar said while responding to the proposal. He added that the government was already taking measures to provide land to genuinely landless people through legal means.

The Chief Minister urged Parra to withdraw the bill, but the PDP legislator declined. Following his refusal, Speaker Abdul Rahim Rather rejected the bill.
