VC terms it beginning of new chapter in Varsity's administrative and academic journey

Ganderbal, Sept 2: Dr. Nisar Ahmad Mir Monday assumed charge as Registrar of the Central University of Kashmir (CUK).
Vice-Chancellor CUK Prof. A Ravinder Nath welcomed Dr. Nisar Ahmad Mir and termed his joining as the beginning of a new chapter in the Registrar a new beginning in the University’s administrative and academic journey.
He said that with the joining of Dr. Nisar, the university is looking forward to entering a new era of reform, and academic distinction, strengthening its place among the nation’s emerging centres of learning and innovation.
Dean Academic Affairs CUK, Controller of Examinations and Professor of Education, Prof. C. Naseema, senior administrative functionaries also welcomed Dr. Nisar Ahmad Mir.
After assuming the office, Dr. Nisar Ahmad Mir, said that with sincerity, professional ethics, and dedication, we can transform CUK into an institution par excellence.
“I urge every member of this university to contribute their full potential in this journey of growth and excellence," he said.
Dr Mir said the goal is to make CUK not only a hub of knowledge but also an institution of national and international repute.
A scholar of Sociology with a MPhil & Ph.D. to his credit, Dr. Mir carries with him more than two decades of rich and varied experience in teaching, research, and academic leadership, published 35 research papers and has edited four books. Besides he has completed nine research projects funded by various Ministries of Government of India. He served as Director, Convocation Complex at the University of Kashmir (KU). Over the years, he has held several pivotal positions, beginning his career as Project Officer at the State Resource Centre, KU, before being appointed as the founder Deputy Registrar at Baba Ghulam Shah Badshah University (2005–2009). He later returned to KU, where he served as Deputy Registrar (2009–2010) and Joint Registrar (2010–2014).
His competence soon took him to the national stage. From 2015 to 2017, Dr. Mir served as Joint Secretary at the University Grants Commission (UGC), Ministry of Human Resource Development, Govt. of India, New Delhi, where he contributed to several flagship academic initiatives, including the National Academic Depository, schemes of academic excellence, and the coordination of the Prime Minister’s Special Scholarship Scheme (PMSSS) for J&K students.
In 2018, he was appointed as Registrar, National Institute of Technology (NIT) Srinagar, followed by his tenure as Registrar, University of Kashmir (2019–2024).
He also continues to serve on key national committees, most notably the UGC Joint Cadre Recruitment Rules Committee, entrusted with framing recruitment regulations for central universities across India.
