taken to safeguard communities near Jhelum, Wular embankments
KS News Desk
Baramulla, Sept 7:
Deputy Commissioner (DC) Baramulla Minga Sherpa along with a team of officers
Monday conducted a comprehensive field visit to Warapora, Mahrajpora, Haritaar,
and adjoining areas of sub-division Sopore to inspect bunds along the River
Jhelum and Wular Lake, besides assessing water-logged locations.
During the visit, DC
assured that the situation is under control with no alarming concerns.
He informed that while some
waterlogging has been reported in parts of Warapora due to rise of water levels
in Wular lake, residential areas, including Haritaar, remain completely safe.
DC further informed that at
locations where embankments were found to be weak, the administration has
promptly initiated strengthening measures through the concerned departments to
ensure adequate protection of the habitations.
Meanwhile, Minga Sherpa urged people not to panic and assured that the district administration is closely monitoring the situation, with all necessary measures in place to respond swiftly to address any eventuality.
Importantly, DC reassured
the public that all roads, power supply, and other essential services remain
intact and are functioning smoothly across the district without any disruption.
