KU celebrates Hindi Diwas with enthusiasm

Srinagar, Sept 16: The Department of Hindi, University of Kashmir (KU), Tuesday organised a special event to celebrate Hindi Diwas, highlighting the significance of Hindi as a link language and its role in strengthening India’s linguistic and cultural diversity.

The aim of the event was to create awareness about the importance of Hindi in promoting national integration, encourage students to appreciate its literary richness, and to promote dialogue on preserving and nurturing Indian languages in academic spaces.

Speaking on the occasion, Vice-Chancellor KU Prof. Nilofer Khan said Hindi, as one of the official languages of the country, not only connects people across regions but also reflects our shared cultural heritage.

"Celebrating Hindi Diwas inspires our students to appreciate the richness of Indian languages and literature," she said.

Dean, School of Arts, Languages and Literature KU, Prof. Aejaz Mohammad Sheikh, highlighted the importance of promoting Hindi at the academic level, noting that such celebrations create awareness about the language’s role in education and communication.

Prof. Zahida Jabeen, faculty at Department of Hindi KU, also highlighted that nurturing respect for Hindi among the younger generation is vital for cultural preservation and inclusivity.

Earlier, in her welcome address, Prof. Rubi Zutshi, Head, Department of Hindi, outlined the objectives of organising the programme and reaffirmed the department’s commitment to promoting Hindi language and literature through academic and cultural initiatives.

The programme was held at the Main Campus and was attended by various heads of departments, faculty members besides students of the campus and faculty members from various schools and colleges of the valley.
