Trade unionism in JKUT makes history as J&K’s first Trade Union leader receives national recognition

Srinagar, Oct 5: In a path breaking moment for the employees’ movement of Jammu & Kashmir, Shah Fayaz, a distinguished national trade union leader and the face of employees’ rights across JK UT has been honoured with the prestigious title of Top and Most Influential Trade Union Leader of North India by PAF India.
The felicitation took place at a glittering function a first of its kind, held in Srinagar on Sunday.
The function was attended by prominent dignitaries including Advisor to Chief Minister Nasir Aslam Wani, intellectuals, civil society members, and representatives from diverse organizations.
Shah Fayaz, who holds multiple key positions of President JK Employees Coordination Committee (JKECC), Chairman of JK Teachers Association (JKTA) and National Secretary of Indian Public Service Employees Federation (IPSEF), has emerged as a towering voice in the trade union landscape not only in JKUT but also across the country.
With this honour, he has scripted history by becoming the first-ever trade union leader from Jammu & Kashmir to be formally recognised at the national level for his leadership, influence, and unwavering service to the workforce.
The achievement not only celebrates his personal achievements but also symbolises the growing acknowledgment of Jammu and Kashmir’s employee leadership on the broader Indian stage.
The organisers described Shah Fayaz as “a leader who has consistently upheld the dignity of the working class, bridged regional and national concerns, and provided a progressive roadmap for employee welfare and empowerment.”
Over the years, Shah Fayaz has played a critical role in steering numerous employees’ movements, negotiating with governments, and ensuring that the collective voice of workers resonates powerfully in policy-making corridors.
His leadership, marked by resilience, courage, and inclusive vision, has earned him respect not just in Jammu & Kashmir but also in several states across the country.
In his remarks, Shah Fayaz dedicated the recognition to the entire workforce of Jammu and Kashmir and the nation, stating that the award was not an individual honour but “a collective acknowledgment of the sacrifices, struggles, and contributions of millions of employees who continue to serve society with dedication.”
He further pledged to intensify efforts for securing employee-friendly policies, strengthening organizational unity, and promoting the values of fairness, transparency, and dignity in the public service sector.
Prominent personalities and fellow trade union leaders have hailed the award as a “watershed moment” for J&K, emphasizing that this national-level recognition will inspire a new generation of union leaders to strive for excellence and integrity in service of the working class.
The felicitation of Shah Fayaz as the Top and Most Influential Trade Union Leader of North India is a testimony to his tireless commitment to social causes including the tirade against drug menace, concern for environment, blood donation camps besides being an emblem of hope for employees across JKUT and rest of the country, reinforcing Jammu and Kashmir’s position on the map of India’s evolving trade union leaders.
