Srinagar Nov 25: A two-day national seminar sponsored by the Indian Council of Social Science Research (ICSSR), New Delhi, commenced today at Government Degree College (GDC) Anantnag.
The event is being organized by the Department of Electronics in collaboration with the Department of Education, GDC Anantnag.
This year’s theme, “Empowering Education Through Emerging Electronics: Pedagogical Innovations and Policy Perspectives in the Age of Artificial Intelligence and Smart Technologies,” brings together experts, academics, and researchers to deliberate on the transformative impact of new technologies on education.
The programme began with the National Anthem followed by the College Anthem. Guests were formally welcomed and felicitated with mementoes and bouquets.
In his introductory remarks, Dr. Zahid Ahmad Bhat, Head, Department of Electronics, and the organizer of the seminar, highlighted the urgency of engaging with forward-looking themes as smart technologies continue to reshape pedagogy, assessment, and the broader educational landscape.
He emphasized that the seminar aims to explore how emerging technologies can be meaningfully leveraged for social progress.
The abstract book and conference kit were formally released during the inaugural session.
Welcoming the participants, Prof. (Dr.) Mushtaq Ahmad Malik, Principal, GDC Anantnag, noted the institution’s longstanding commitment to organizing events that contribute to shaping the future across diverse sectors.
He acknowledged the declining interest in electronics among students in Jammu and Kashmir but reaffirmed the college’s resolve to restore the discipline’s past prominence.
Dr. Malik also stressed the need to critically reflect on why the region lags behind industrially advanced areas in technological innovation, despite consistently producing talented minds with the potential to contribute significantly at national and global levels. He cited the notable achievements of the college’s alumni worldwide.
Delivering a special address, Prof. (Dr.) Sheikh Aijaz Bashir, Director Colleges J&K, underscored the importance of such academic engagements in driving positive disruption and improving educational outcomes.
He emphasized the need for sustained capacity building among faculty and students in emerging technologies and core electronics.
The keynote address was delivered by Prof. Mahesh P. Abegaonkar, Associate Professor at the Centre for Applied Research in Electronics (CARE), Indian Institute of Technology Delhi, who urged participants to become creators rather than mere consumers of knowledge. Presenting his pioneering work on CubeSat technologies, he highlighted their transformative applications in agriculture, education, and other sectors. He stressed the importance of developing indigenous CubeSats to foster technological innovation and advance educational objectives.
Dr. Arshad Hussain Ganie conducted the proceedings of the inaugural session while Dr. Maqbool Ahanger presented the formal vote of thanks.
