Srinagar, Dec 5: In a significant enforcement move, the Assistant Regional Transport Officer (ARTO) Baramulla has banned the resale and purchase of registered vehicles without proper authorization, citing violations of the Central Motor Vehicles Rules (CMVR).
Officials said the prohibition follows government orders issued on November 24, which categorically declare the unauthorised resale or purchase of registered vehicles illegal across the Union Territories of Jammu & Kashmir and Ladakh, particularly under CMVR Rules 55A–55H.
The ARTO warned that any vehicles or establishments engaged in such activities will face immediate seizure.
The enforcement will come into full effect 21 days after the issuance of the Transport Commissioner’s circular, after which all unauthorized resale and purchase operations will be treated as banned in Baramulla district.
Dealers and individuals involved in the secondary vehicle market have been directed to adhere strictly to the notified guidelines to avoid punitive action. Authorities reiterated that compliance with CMVR regulations is mandatory and that violations will invite legal consequences. (KNO)
