SED Non Teaching Forum to launch mass agitation over prolonged stay of teachers in offices

Srinagar, Jan 21:

The School Education Non Teaching Employees Forum (SENTEF) has decided to launch a massive agitation and go for strike on January 23 over the department's failure to repatriate the teachers to their actual place of postings.

In a communication addressed to Director School Education Kashmir (DSEK), the SENTEF has stated that the forum will stage a protest against the alleged harassment of SENTEF Chairman Basharat Saleem Mir.

The forum has said that Chairman SENTEF was being harassed to suppress his voice regarding removal of teaching staff from clerical assignments.

"Chairman SENTEF in his inaugural statement courageously highlighted the rampant violation of government rules regarding the deployment of teaching staff on non-teaching assignments across offices in Directorate of School Education Kashmir (DSEK), Chief Education Offices (CEOs), and Zonal Education Offices (ZEOs)," the communication reads.

It reads that despite strict and clear orders passed Lieutenant Governor, Chief Secretary and Principal Secretary School Education Department regarding immediate removal of all teachers from clerical assignments no action was taken on ground.

"It is disheartening to see that these orders have not been implemented despite their prolonged illegal stay in office which ranges from from 10 to 20 years. This entrenched teaching mafia has effectively hijacked the directorate office, CEO Offices and other subordinate offices to further their nefarious and vested interests," the communication reads.

SENTEF in its letter to Director School Education Kashmir has stated that instead of addressing the legitimate issue, an apparent influence has been managed, which led to the abrupt transfer of SENTEF Chairman Basharat Saleem from DIET Pampore to HSS Imamsahib Shopian to suppress the voice of SENTEF," the letter reads.

SENTEF has termed the move as a revengeful measure orchestrated by the group of teachers in league with the directorate.

"Such arbitrary actions not only undermine the morale of dedicated non-teaching staff but also jeopardize the legitimate rights at large," the letter reads.

SENTEF has further stated that it was not against the transfer of any non-teaching employee.

"But this transfer is more of a punishment for Basharat Saleem who has been relocated from one district to the outskirts of another district at a distance of over 100 kilometres, that too on the behest of a group of teaching staff posted on clerical assignment especially in Directorate of School Education Kashmir," the letter reads.

SENTEF has expressed its resentment over the "harassment and humiliation" of its elected Chairman.

"We are compelled to submit casual leave for January 23 of 2025 to register our protest and further we sincerely urge your esteemed office to review this matter impartially and address it on merits," the letter reads.

SENTEF has further said that its confidence of the non-teaching staff should be restored in administrative processes "otherwise, we will adopt other options."
