Baramulla, Jan 26:
The former president Baramulla Municipal Council (BMC), Touseef Raina on Sunday said that collective efforts were needed to create an environment for future generations to breathe in peace.
He was speaking on the sidelines of a function organised to celebrate Republic Day 2025.
The function was organised in old Town Baramulla where he also unfurled the National Flag.
Talking to reporters Touseef Raina said that people of old town gathered to celebrate Republic Day which was a positive change.
"This is a positive sign of our future. I would especially like to appeal to my people particularly the youth that we have to maintain this environment so that our children can breathe in happiness and see their future safe and secure," Touseef Raina said.
He said it was the collective responsibility for young activists, and other citizens to contribute towards this positive mission.
"I always say that we should not ask any authority, or any leadership, or government to create a good environment for us. We should create a good environment for ourselves in which we can see progress and happiness," he said .
Touseef Raina said that old town Baramulla has been deprived of a lot of things and youth are facing problems to find jobs and to get their verification done.
"Our youth are not getting passports because of this issue. Our government should also have a big heart, they should forgive these youth, because in past there was an environment of fear which has now faded away," Raina said.
He said that youth were bearing the brunt of what their grandfathers and other relatives have done in past.
"Our youth are peace loving and want to contribute towards betterment of the society. The J&K government and the LG Administration should take these things into account and ease the verification process for youth," he said.
Touseef Raina urged the government to relax the verification system for youth as a "gift" on eve of Republic Day.
"Our youth need love, they should be embraced by the government. The mistakes that have happened in the past should be forgiven and youth should be given a chance," he said.
He however extended his gratitude to Baramulla Police saying that during previous functions dozens of youth would receive calls to report to concerned Police station on eve of Republic Day or Independence Day.
"But today, nobody received any such calls. People particularly youth have happily joined the Republic Day celebrations. This indicates that of anyone was distracted, he has come back on the right track now and he should be encouraged for this rather than punishing him for mistakes he did in past," he said.
He said people want peace, happiness and progress because everybody wants to secure the future of their kids.
"Nobody wants that our kids should go through the environment which we have gone through in the past. So besides the government, it is our responsibility to maintain the peaceful environment," he said.
He said people should shun hatred and move forward with love for our country and for our nation.
