Baramulla, Jan 28: In a surprising move, the authorities at the Government Degree College Baramulla have issued "final warning" to individuals who resort to trolling, defamation from their unauthorised social media platforms.
The move comes days after the college authorities observed that some individuals were trying to defame the college by spreading derogatory content on social media.
Earlier, some misleading posts and memes were shared on the social media to defame the educational institution which forced the college authorities to issue a final warning to these individuals.
A video of the college was earlier posted by a few Facebook users in which teachers were seen conducting vocational training. The video, however was ridiculed by social media users.
In the wake of this, a public notice issued by the Principal GDC Baramulla Prof. (Dr.) Mohammad Shafi Lone has stated that despite previous warnings, certain pages continue to malign the institution.
The college has sought intervention from J&K Cyber Police, which has identified individuals responsible, including their mobile numbers, email addresses, and residential addresses.
“This notice serves as a final warning to all such individuals. You are hereby directed to immediately remove all such pages, posts, and related content within the next 24 hours,” the notice reads.
The college has also warned of strict legal action under Sections 66A-67 of the Information Technology Act, 2000, and Sections 500 and 505 of the IPC, if compliance is not met.
“Failure to comply shall result in a request to J&K Cyber Police to apprehend the individuals involved and initiate necessary legal proceedings,” the notice reads.
The college administration has cautioned students that engaging in such activities could result in severe academic consequences, including the cancellation of admission.
“Strict administrative action, including the cancellation of admission, will be taken against any student involved in such activities,” the notice warned.
The college said that there will be its zero-tolerance policy towards any attempts to malign its reputation of the institution.
“The college remains firm in maintaining its integrity and shall not tolerate any attempts to malign its reputation,” the notice reads.
