MLA Javed Beig seeks GoI assistance to restore lost glory of Baramulla, its inclusion in AMRUT

Says town facing dearth of parking space

Baramulla, Jan 28: The Member of Legislative Assembly (MLA) Baramulla Javed Hassan Beig on Tuesday sought assistance of the Government of India (GoI) to restore the "lost glory of the Baramulla district."

He was speaking during a review meeting chaired by Union Minister of State (MoS) for Union Ministry of Micro, Small and Medium Enterprises (MSME), Labour and Employment, Shobha Karandlaje  to review progress on various indicators of NITI Ayog's Aspirational District Programme (ADP). The meeting was convened at Dak Bungalow Baramulla.

"I need your help and guidance to restore the glory of the Baramulla," Beig urged the Union minister.

He said the administration was giving efforts to keep eyes on every issue but till date Baramulla town has not got the a designated parking place for the people visiting the town from different areas.

"This district is located a strategic location. We see movement of the army besides VIPs. We are keeping eye on everything but we do not have parking place in the town to park our vehicles. The district administration is aware of the issue," he said.

He urged the Union minister for her intervention to get some land allotted to create a parking space in the town.

The minister in her reply said that there was no revenue department in Central government and asked the MLA to take up the issue with the district administration and revenue department to utilise some government land for parking space.

Meanwhile, Javed Beig further said that Baramulla was marred by the congestion as the houses are located adjacent to each other in colonies and there was a dire need to launch decongestion measures. "I need your help in this. If we won't ask the Government then whom to approach," Beig said, adding that we (MLAs) have to approach the government to address the public issues.

He further said that a spot (seven springs) located adjacent to the old town Baramulla needs to be developed as a pilgrim tourist spot and urged the Union minister to schedule her visit to the spot once she plans her travel to Baramulla district next time.

"Our town has a the main issue of water supply schemes in which we need some new water supply scheme, up gradation of existing scheme and implementation of water quality monitoring system," he said.

He urged the  Union minister to include baramulla in Atal Mission for Rejuvenation and Urban Transformation (AMRUT) and implement all the benefits of the scheme in the district.

He said that it was collective wish of the people to lead towards progress under the leadership of the Central and UT government.

"It is our wish that in your leadership along with the current government. We should lead Jammu and Kashmir on the path of progress. Be it this year or next year, we wish that our Prime Minister and Home Minister Sahib should visit Baramulla amid the current scenario to lead people under their initiatives of progress and development," he said.
