National Road Safety Month: Police holds day long workshop on IRAD application

Srinagar Jan 30: A day-long training cum workshop on Integrated Road Accident Database (IRAD) was organised for Investigation officers (IOs) of all police stations and  police posts at recreation hall of DPL Shopian.

As per the official handout, the training session was organised to feed comprehensive and quality based data by IOs in IRAD application and to introduce the latest features of the portal.

The statement reads that the IRAD system, developed by the Ministry of Road Transport and Highways (MoRTH) with support from the Indian Institute of Technology (IIT) Madras aims to improve the collection, analysis, and response to road accident data. 

"The training cum workshop focused on how IRAD helps in identifying accident-prone areas, analyzing causes and formulating data-driven policies for accident prevention," the official handout reads.

Additional Superintendent of Police Shopian Shukat Rafiq accompanied by SP headquarters Shopian, DySP PC Keller, DySP DAR Shopian and District Rollout Manager were present at the occasion.

In their address, the speakers highlighted how IRAD serves as a centralised system for real-time accident data collection and analysis, enabling authorities to take data-driven decisions to reduce accidents and fatalities. "Accurate accident data is crucial for identifying black spots, understanding causes and formulating preventive measures," the speakers as per the handout said.

"IRAD empowers stakeholders with real-time information to enhance road safety policies," they said.

The speakers also pointed out the importance of collaboration between police, transport and health departments in utilizing IRAD efficiently.

They stressed upon training personnel to input data accurately and analyze accident patterns would lead to better infrastructure planning and enforcement measures.
