Ensure implementation of Environment Education in UG programs: UGC tells colleges, universities

Srinagar Feb 09: The University Grants Commission (UGC) has instructed all the Universities and Degree Colleges to ensure the implementation of the Environment Education course across all undergraduate programs in compliance with Supreme Court's mandate for fostering environmental literacy and responsibility among students.

In an official communication to all the Vice Chancellors and Degree College Principals, Secretary UGC Manish R Joshi has said the move aligns with the objectives of the National Education Policy (NEP) 2020.

The Universities and Degree Colleges have been provided a Google form link to assess the progress in implementing the Environment Education course.

"Higher educational institutions are requested to kindly submit an update regarding the current status of implementation latest by February 10 of 2025," the official communication reads.

"Your valuable feedback will assist the UGC in ensuring uniformity and excellence in integrating environment education in all HEIs," it reads.

The official communication reads that the detailed curriculum and guidelines were available on the UGC's website.

"We greatly appreciate your continued cooperation in shaping environmentally conscious and responsible citizens and fostering a sustainable future," the official communication reads.
