Srinagar Feb 12: The University Grants Commission (UGC) has barred Jagdishprasad Jhabarmal Tibrewala (JJT) University in Jhunjhunu, Rajasthan from enrolling students for Ph.D programmes for five years.
In a public notification, the UGC has also advised students not to take admission to the PhD programme at the University.
The UGC in its official communication has said that a Standing Committee has been constituted by the UGC to monitor whether Universities were following the procedure and awarding Ph.D degrees in accordance with the UGC Regulations.
"One of the mandates of this Standing committee is to suggest corrective measures and recommend action to be taken against erring Universitie," it reads.
It further reads that after examining the information and data submitted by the JJT University, Rajasthan the Standing Committee has found that the varsity did not follow the provisions of the UGC Ph.D Regulations besides the academic norms for the award of Ph.D degrees.
"The University was given an opportunity to explain why they failed to comply with the provisions of the UGC Ph.D. Regulations. however, the responses received from the JJT University was not found satisfactory," it reads.
The Standing Committee has thus, recommended that the UGC may debar Shri JJT University, Chudela Jhunjhunu, Rajasthan from enrolling students in Ph.D for the next five years.
"Keeping in view the recommendations given by the Standing Committee, it has been decided to debar Shri Jagdishprasad Jhabarmal Tibrewala University from enrolling scholars under Ph.D program for the next five years i.e. from the academic year 2025-26 to 2029-30," the official communication reads.
It reads that the University has been informed about this decision of UGC and is also directed to immediately discontinue enrolling students for Ph.D degree.
"Prospective students and parents are hereby advised not to take admission in the Ph.D programme offered by the JJT University from now onwards," it reads.
In the absence of UGC approval, Ph.D awarded by the university shall not be treated recognized or valid "for the purpose of higher education and employment."
