Rajouri, Feb 13: The Department of Botany at Baba Ghulam
Shah Badshah University (BGSBU) Thursday organised a Science Outreach Program
on "Impact of Climate Change on Flora and Fauna of Jammu and Kashmir"
at Government Higher Secondary School, Dehri Ralyote, Manjakote.
The event was sponsored by the Indian National Science Academy (INSA) under the INSA Young Scientist Program for Dr. Mohd Asghar Mughal, Assistant Professor, Department of Botany, BGSBU. The event aimed at raising awareness among students about the environmental challenges posed by climate change.
In his address, Vice Chancellor Prof. Jawaid Iqbal appreciated the efforts of the Department of Botany in promoting scientific awareness and environmental consciousness among students. He emphasized the significance of such outreach programs in educating the younger generation about pressing ecological issues.
As part of the program, a quiz competition was conducted to engage students and enhance their scientific knowledge.
Faculty members, including Dr.Mohd Asghar Mughal and Dr. Mohd Haneef from the Department of Botany, along with Dr. Danish Iqbal, Assistant Professor, Department of Management Studies, interacted with students and highlighted the impact of climate change on the region’s biodiversity, stressing the importance of conservation efforts.
Principal of GHSS Dehri Ralyote, Qayoom Hussain Shah, expressed his gratitude to BGSBU and INSA for organizing the event. He acknowledged the valuable insights shared by the experts and encouraged students to actively participate in environmental conservation initiatives.
The program was well-received by students and faculty,
fostering scientific curiosity and a deeper understanding of climate change and
its impact on the ecosystem.
