KU admin says recruitment process transparent as allegations of favouritism galore

Srinagar, Feb 14: The aspirants for the Assistant Professor post in Kashmir University (KU) on Thursday alleged that the varsity was violating Economically Weaker Sections (EWS) reservation policy in its ongoing recruitment.

However, the varsity authorities termed the allegations baseless saying the recruitment was going in a transparent manner.

However, the EWS category candidates claimed arbitrary rejection and lack of transparency.

"We applied for the Assistant Professor position under EWS category and appeared for the interview. The candidates said they were falling under eligibility criteria and participated in the selection process but were not selected and the reserved seat was instead awarded to a general category candidate," an aggrieved aspirant said.

"The varsity did not give any reasons for rejecting our form. The reserved seat was overridden and excluded, which is a clear violation of the EWS reservation policy," the aspirant said.

The EWS reservation was introduced in 2019 through the 103rd Constitutional Amendment Act, which provides 10 percent reservation in government jobs and educational institutions for individuals from economically disadvantaged backgrounds who do not belong to any existing reserved categories (such as SC, ST, or OBC).

The EWS candidates have submitted a formal complaint to the university authorities, demanding an immediate re-evaluation of the selection process.

They have also sought clarity on the criteria used for selection and the reasons for their absolute rejection.

The dejected aspirants said nothing was put in the public domain as the recruitment section was calling the candidates individually, raising suspicion over the transparency of this process.

"If a candidate meets minimum eligibility and has a strong academic record like having qualified NET/SET and having published research papers in Taylor and francis and other reputed journals. How is the University empowered to rule such candidates unfit and unsuitable, the aspirants asked.

The Vice Chancellor KU, Prof. Nilofer Khan said there were no violations in the recruitment process.

"The recruitment is going in a transparent manner and as per the rule. We have not done any violations in it," she said.

Meanwhile, the university has already issued the list of the selected candidates for the post of Assistant Professor in different departments of the University.
