Srinagar Feb 15: Despite the Court directions to allow students of a Srinagar private school to sit in class 10th exams, Chairman JKBOSE has not yet approved the file leaving the students in a dilemma.

Earlier on Saturday, Srinagar Court  directed the Chairman JK Board of School Education (JKBOSE) and Joint Secretary (General) to allow 22 students of The Islamic Global School Padshahibagh Srinagar to appear in class 10th exams.

The directions were issued as the authorities at JKBOSE) earlier denied class 10th exam registration forms to the students despite the government directions, prompting school management to approach the judiciary for relief.

The Court observed that a peculiar situation has come before the court which warrants passing appropriate orders in the matter as simply adjourning the matter can have an effect of ruining the career of students.

"Accordingly, counsel for the defendants are directed to submit their written statement on the next date of hearing and in the meantime, defendant 3 and 4 (Chairman JKBOSE and joint Director General) are directed to accept the registration renewal and examination forms of 22 students and allow them to appear in the examination of 10th class in all subjects/papers for the current session 2024-25 conducted by the defendants," the Court order reads.

However, the BOSE officials have not yet processed the file which has subjected the students mental trauma and anxiety.

The Court ordered that the Chairman JKBOSE and Joint Secretary General be directed to permit the 22 students of plaintiff to sit in examination of 10th class for the session 2024-25 which is to be scheduled to be held from February 17, 2025.

The Court observed that the Chief Education Officer Srinagar has requested for registration of 22 in itself presupposes that the said 22 students have pre-requisites to appear for the 10th class.

"This order is conveyed accordingly to defendants for compliance," the order reads.

A copy of the order has been sent to the Joint secretary (General) JKBOSE Bemina for compliance.

Kashmir Square earlier reported that JKBOSE) denied class 10th exam registration forms to 22 students of The Islamic Global School Srinagar despite the government instructions.

The issue came to lime light after the parents of the students staged a protest against the JKBOSE authorities while a complaint was filed in the CM office against the Board authorities.

The indifferent attitude of the JKBOSE took everybody by surprise as the students were denied exam forms despite the decision by the Directorate of School Education Kashmir (DSEK) to tag the students with the nearby government school.

As per the document, DSEK in December last year ordered for tagging the students of class 9th and 10th enrolled in The Islamic Global School Padshahibagh Srinagar, with the nearby government school for the current 2024-25 academic session.

The decision was taken "in order to save the academic career of the students."

Also, Chief Education Officer (CEO) Srinagar in an official letter addressed to Secretary JKBOSE said that students of The Islamic Global School Padshahibagh Srinagar were tagged with Boys Higher Secondary School (BHSS) Natipora for the current session.

The communication reads that the decision was taken "in compliance with the directions received from DSEK."

The CEO in the official communication earlier requested the Chairman JKBOSE that as a special case and to save the academic career, the 22 students be registered with JKBOSE and their examination forms for class 10th be accepted through BHSS Natipora, on priority.

Following this, another intimation was issued by the Principal BHSS Natipora wherein he informed the JKBOSE authorities that students of The Islamic Global School Padshahibagh were tagged with their institute.

The principal "requested" the Board authorities to consider the case of the students and facilitate the Registration Renewal and examination form.

However, the issue is still lingering as the JKBOSE is yet to process the issue despite receiving directions from the Court.

"Despite clear cut orders from the Hon'ble Court, JKBOSE has not yet issued the Roll No slips to the 22 students of Islamic Global School," President Private School Association J&K (PSAJK) G N Var said.

He said parents are camping at the JKBOSE office and waiting for the roll number slips.

"JKBOSE has not yet received any orders from its Chairman regarding the issuance of Roll No slips," he said.

Former Chief Minister and President Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) Mehbooba Mufti also expressed concern over the issue saying that JKBOSE was putting students and their families in stress.

"Despite court orders, the BOSE chairman has yet to approve the file for the students of Islamic Global School. The entire school management and the students’ families are under immense distress, waiting outside the BOSE office in Srinagar," she wrote on her official X handle.

"With the first paper scheduled for Monday, there has been no response or direction from the BOSE chairman so far," she said.

She further requested  the Chief Minister to intervene in this matter.
