CUK claims faculty & students from 19 languages, facts speak otherwise

Srinagar, Feb 21: In a surprising development, the Central University of Kashmir on Friday claimed to have the faculty and students from 19 languages and claimed the varsity was committed to create understanding and promote their use in the campus.

These remarks were made during the commemoration of International Mother Languages Day-2025 at varsity’s Green Campus.

The event was organised by the Directorate of Students Welfare (DSW) in association with the School of Languages, Central University of Kashmir (CUK).

In his address, the Dean Academic Affairs of the university Prof. Shahid Rasool has underscored the need of preserving the Kashmiri language for maintaining the region’s rich cultural and literary heritage.

The Dean Academic Affairs as per the official handout of the university has informed the participants that "CUK has students and faculty from 19 different languages" and the varsity will create understanding and promote their use on the campus.

"CUKashmir has students and faculty from 19 different languages and our endeavour, under the able guidance of the Vice Chancellor, Prof. A Ravinder Nath is to create understanding of all of them and promote their use on the campus," the official handout of the varsity reads.

However, the insiders of the varsity said the university does not have faculty and staff from as many languages as claimed by the Dean Academic Affairs.
